Everything you need to set up your Katie Speaker and start receiving spoken notifications.

Create Your Account

  1. Visit app.katiespeaker.com in your browser.
  2. Sign in with Google, GitHub, Microsoft, or Apple.
  3. Your account is created automatically on first sign-in.

Install the Android App (Optional)

Download the app on your Android phone: katiespeaker.com/KatieSpeaker.apk

Allow installation from unknown sources when prompted, then sign in with your account. The app makes it easy to link devices by scanning QR codes.

The app is currently Android only. You can always use the web app at app.katiespeaker.com from any device.

Set Up Your Katie Speaker

Power On

Plug in your Katie Speaker. It will boot to a splash screen showing connection progress.

Select Your Timezone

On first boot, select your timezone (e.g., "Eastern Time") to continue.

Connect to WiFi

  1. The device shows a list of nearby WiFi networks.
  2. Tap your network name.
  3. Enter your password. Use the eye icon to show/hide it.
  4. Tap Connect.
Tip: Katie supports 2.4 GHz WiFi. If your network doesn't appear, tap Hidden network to enter it manually.

Link Your Device

Once connected to WiFi, the device shows a Link Device screen with a QR code and device ID.

Using the Android app (easiest):

  1. Open the Katie app and tap Link a Device.
  2. Tap Scan QR Code and point your camera at the screen.
  3. Done! The device links automatically.

Using the web app:

  1. Go to app.katiespeaker.com and sign in.
  2. Click Link a Device and enter the device ID.

Subscribe to Channels

  1. On the Devices & Subscriptions page, tap your device to expand it.
  2. Tap Subscribe to Channel.
  3. Browse or search available channels.
  4. Tap a channel to subscribe, then Save.

Your device will immediately start receiving messages.

Using Your Katie Speaker

When a message arrives, Katie reads it aloud and shows it on screen. Tap any message to replay.

Volume: Use the controls at the bottom — volume up/down and mute.

Settings: Tap the gear icon for brightness, WiFi, timezone, and firmware updates.

Quiet Hours

Set quiet hours so Katie stays silent at night. In the web app, tap the gear icon on your device and set start/end times.

  • Messages still appear on screen.
  • Audio is silenced.
  • Tapping a message to replay will still play audio.

Firmware Updates

Tap the gear icon on the device, then under Firmware, tap Check. If an update is available, tap Download, then Install. The device will restart automatically.

Managing Your Devices

  • Rename: Tap the gear icon, change the name, and save.
  • Connection status: Each device shows Connected, Disconnected, or Never Connected.
  • Unlink: Tap the gear icon, scroll down, and tap Unlink Device.

Troubleshooting

Device won't connect to WiFi

  • Double-check your WiFi password.
  • Move closer to your router.
  • Use the 2.4 GHz network (not 5 GHz).

Stuck on "Connecting..."

  • Check your WiFi has internet access.
  • Unplug and re-plug the device.

No audio

  • Check volume and mute button.
  • Check if quiet hours are active.

Messages aren't arriving

  • Make sure you have channel subscriptions.
  • Check the device shows "Connected" in the app.
